Ibadan-based broadcaster Abdulrasaq Abdulganeey Adekunle, popularly known as Mr. GRA, has joined the list of media practitioners venturing into partisan politics in Oyo State as he declared his intention to contest in the 2027 general election.
Adekunle announced his bid for the Ibadan North Constituency I seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, adopting the campaign slogan, “The Right Man for the Job.”
The ace presenter, who is widely recognized for his engaging and community-oriented programs on Agidigbo FM, has built a loyal listenership base across Ibadan and its environs.
Beyond broadcasting, Adekunle is the founder of TNM Media Academy, a platform dedicated to training and mentoring aspiring broadcasters and media professionals in the state.
His entry into the race underscores a growing trend in Oyo politics, where media personalities are increasingly leveraging their popularity and grassroots connection to pursue elective positions. Political observers note that the influence of radio in Ibadan, in particular, has continued to shape public opinion and mobilise support at the grassroots level.
Adekunle’s declaration comes amid similar political moves by other broadcasters in the state, including Oriyomi Hamzat, Faysol Oluwakemi, and Waheed Akintayo, who has already indicated interest in the 2027 governorship race.
Adekunle is expected to commence wider consultations with party leaders and constituents in the coming months as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
