The All Progressives Congress South Africa (APC-SA) has officially inaugurated its Mpumalanga Provincial Executive Council, marking a significant step in the party’s efforts to strengthen its structures within the Nigerian diaspora ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Mbombela Municipality Hall in Mpumalanga, South Africa, brought together members of the Nigerian community, political stakeholders, and representatives of political organizations in the province.

Speaking at the event, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the APC Mpumalanga Chapter, Dr. Hon. Olúwatosin Ademola Ojo, described the occasion as a milestone in the party’s commitment to promoting political participation among Nigerians living abroad.

The event, themed “Consolidating Diaspora for Renewed Hope 2027: Political Consciousness and Participation in the Making of an Egalitarian Nation,” focused on the role of the diaspora in supporting democratic development and nation-building in Nigeria.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Ojo emphasized that Nigerians in the diaspora must actively contribute to shaping the country’s future, noting that they remain critical stakeholders in Nigeria’s political and socio-economic development.

According to him, the newly inaugurated executives will serve as ambassadors of the Renewed Hope agenda beyond Nigeria’s borders, working to foster political awareness, unity, and civic engagement among Nigerians residing in South Africa.

Delivering the keynote address, the General Secretary of APC-SA, Ààrẹ Hon. Mathias Afolabi Sagbo, charged the new leadership to prioritize organizational discipline, political education, and strategic participation as key pillars for advancing the party’s objectives within the diaspora community.

Sagbo urged members to strengthen party cohesion, intensify grassroots mobilization, and deepen their understanding of the APC’s ideological vision, particularly in the areas of economic reform, anti-corruption, and national unity.

He further encouraged diaspora members to actively support voter education initiatives, advocacy campaigns, and political engagement activities aimed at contributing to the success of the party in the 2027 elections.

Also speaking, APC-SA Chairman, Hon. Abayomi E. Awosemo, called on the Mpumalanga executives to translate the party’s vision into practical action through membership expansion, political sensitization, and stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Awosemo stressed the importance of building partnerships with South African political actors and institutions as part of efforts to strengthen democratic engagement and diplomatic relations between both countries.

A major highlight of the event was the attendance of prominent members of the Nigerian community in Mpumalanga, alongside representatives of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) and other political stakeholders in South Africa, reflecting growing support for APC-SA’s activities within the diaspora.

Observers noted that the inauguration further demonstrated APC-SA’s commitment to expanding its organizational footprint and enhancing political participation among Nigerians abroad.

With the successful inauguration of the Mpumalanga Provincial Executive Council, APC-SA has reaffirmed its resolve to consolidate its structures, strengthen diaspora engagement, and contribute meaningfully to the realization of the party’s Renewed Hope agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The newly inaugurated executives are expected to commence activities aimed at increasing membership, promoting political awareness, and mobilizing support for the party within the Nigerian community across Mpumalanga Province.
