Nigerians seeking to visit, study or work in Canada may now have to wait longer for their applications to be processed following a fresh update by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

A check by our correspondent on Friday showed that the latest processing-time update, made on August 19, 2026, increased the estimated waiting periods for several temporary resident applications from Nigeria.

According to data compiled by Immigration News Canada from the IRCC processing-time tool, the estimated processing time for a Canadian visitor visa from Nigeria has risen to 76 days, up from 68 days in the previous update.

The increase represents an additional eight days for Nigerians applying for visitor visas from outside Canada.

The processing time for study permits has also increased to nine weeks, representing a two-week rise from the previous update.

Similarly, Nigerians applying for work permits are now facing an estimated processing time of nine weeks, also up by two weeks.

For Nigerians seeking a Super Visa, the estimated processing time has risen to 53 days, an increase of 10 days from the previous update.

The latest figures were contained in the August 19 update of IRCC’s processing-time estimates, which are regularly revised based on application volumes and processing capacity.

The development is significant for Nigerians planning to travel to Canada for tourism, education, employment or to visit family, as applicants may now need to allow additional time for their applications to be processed.

The figures at a glance:

Visitor visa: 76 days — up 8 days

Study permit: 9 weeks — up 2 weeks

Work permit: 9 weeks — up 2 weeks

Super Visa: 53 days — up 10 days

The processing times are estimates and do not constitute a guarantee that an application will be finalised within the stated period. IRCC updates its processing-time estimates regularly.
