Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that his ambition to lead Nigeria in 2027 will not be restricted to any particular region, but he will traverse the country to seek the support of Nigerians for his presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde, who is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), made the declaration on Saturday shortly after he and his wife, Tamunominini, were conferred with the traditional titles of Aare Asoludero of Ibarapaland and Yeye-Aare Asoludero at the newly commissioned palace of the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oyo State.
The ceremony attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials, and other dignitaries from across the state.
Speaking after receiving the traditional honour, Makinde said his aspiration to become president would not be restricted to any particular region, but he would embark on a nationwide campaign to present his vision for good governance and development to Nigerians across the country.
“My aspiration to lead Nigeria will not confine my aspiration to lead Nigeria to any particular region. I am prepared to take my message of good governance and development to Nigerians across the country.
“This ambition will require me to engage extensively with the people and present my vision for a better Nigeria to citizens in different parts of the country,” Makinde said.
Makinde said the political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections would require him to engage voters across the country on the platform of the APM.
The ceremony was held at the newly commissioned palace of the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola, and attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials, and other dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin.
The governor expressed appreciation to the Eleruwa and the people of Ibarapaland for the honour, saying it came with greater responsibility.
“This honour will further strengthen my commitment to serving the people and contributing to the development of our country,” Makinde said.
He also appealed to traditional rulers in the state to remain above partisan politics and accord all political actors equal treatment.
He said, “I appeal to our Kabiyesis to steer clear of partisan politics and to embrace all political actors without bias. Any monarch who interferes in politics or political matters will be treated as a politician.”
Ogundoyin, in his remarks, commended the governor for the inner-road projects executed in Ibarapaland and pledged the continued support of lawmakers for initiatives aimed at improving residents’ welfare.
The Chairman of Ibarapa-East Local Government, Kazeem Owolabi, also praised the Makinde administration for its interventions in the area and expressed confidence in the continued support of residents.
