Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, on Wednesday, September 30, led a mega rally at Amoo Field, Orile Agege, to flag off the All Progressives Congress (APC) Agege chapter’s campaign for the general election.
Obasa, the APC House of Representatives candidate for Agege Federal Constituency, urged the crowd to move from door to door, carry the party’s message, and convert Agege’s numbers into an overwhelming APC victory in the general election.
The rally drew traditional and religious rulers, party leaders and loyalists, representatives of trade associations and artisans, and leaders of non-Yoruba communities.
He told supporters that a narrow win would not be enough. “Let us join hands and make sure we deliver. It is not just about victory; we must surpass our previous votes. Sound it loud to everybody – all trade associations, artisans, tribes, religious and traditional leaders. We have the numbers, and we will pour it into the APC.”
Speaker Obasa charged the crowd to vote massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the Lagos APC governorship candidate, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat; the Senator representing Lagos West, Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule; and himself as the House of Representatives candidate for Agege Federal Constituency.
He said the campaign message must travel through markets, artisan groups, places of worship, and community associations until polling day, so Agege does not merely retain its APC identity but improves on its past electoral performances.
Despite the scorching midday sun, the large turnout, Speaker Obasa said, confirms Agege’s place as one of the party’s most reliable bases. He added that it was also a show of love and cohesion rather than a response to critics. “Agege is always one. And we will continue to be one. There is nothing wrong with our party in Agege,” he said.
On opposition voices and internal rumours, the Speaker said, “There will always be detractors, but we will not listen to the din of the marketplace because no matter what you do, you will never be loved by the enemy.”
He also urged calm in the weeks ahead, saying, “We must try to avoid conflict, because at the end of the day, the people will vote for their representatives – the people they truly want. Nobody can force anyone on the people.”
