The Lucky Aiyedatiwa-led government in Ondo State is selling frozen chickens at a subsidised price of ₦5,000 per bird to ease the impact of rising food prices and improve residents’ access to affordable sources of protein.

The initiative, being implemented through the Ondo State Agri-business Empowerment Centre (OSAEC), started on Tuesday.

Frozen Chicken

Each frozen chicken weighs between 1.3kg and 1.6kg and is being sold at the subsidised price.

Frozen chicken sells for between N6,500 and N7,000 per kilogramme in many markets, making the government-backed initiative a more affordable option for households.

The Chairman of OSAEC, Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola, said the initiative was being implemented on behalf of the Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, as part of the administration’s commitment to easing the burden on residents.

Affordability

“Families are feeling the pressure of rising food prices. We want every household in Ondo State to be able to afford quality protein, so we are selling full chickens at a subsidised rate of N5,000,” Akinsola said.

He explained that the intervention aligns with OSAEC’s mandate to promote food security, strengthen agribusiness development and enhance access to affordable food across in the state.

According to him, the initiative reflects the government’s recognition of the need for practical interventions that address the cost-of-living challenges facing ordinary citizens, particularly in meeting essential household food needs.

Akinsola urged residents to take advantage of the subsidised sale and expressed appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for his support for programmes aimed at improving food affordability and the welfare of the people.

The subsidised chickens are available for purchase at the OSAEC office on Obafemi Awolowo Way, Alagbaka, Akure.
