OYHA Passes Road Traffic Management Authority Amendment Bill Into Law

Oyo State House of Assembly has passed the State Road Traffic Management Authority, Amendment Bill 2018 into law.

This followed a presentation of report of joint committee on Works and Transport and Health.

The House began its sitting commending the Federal government for reviving the nation’s carrier now called Nigerian Air which is set to commence operations by the end of the year.

The house proceeded by reading for the third time, the bill to amend Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority.

Reading the report, Chairman, House committee on Works and Transport, Mr. Michael Sangodipe said, the bill was to ensure free flow of traffic and prevent road accidents in the state.

After checking the bill clause by clause, the bill was passed into law by the Speaker, Mr. Olagunju Ojo.

In another development, the State Assembly urged the executive arm of government to ensure that operators of existing event centres and shopping malls in the state comply with the necessary provisions of laws governing the building and development of such facilities.

The step followed the motion moved by the lawmaker representing Atiba state constituency, Hon Gbenga Oyekola on the need to regularise the Operations of event Centres and Shopping Malls.

Oyekola noted that, some of the structures were not approved before their development.

In separate contributions, Hon Mrs Bimbo Oladeji from Ogbomoso North, Hon Fatai Adesina from Ibadan South East II and the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Abdulwasil Musa stressed the need to check the proliferation of event centres in the interest of the citizens of the state.

The house, however, set up a seven man committee to be headed by the majority leader, Mr. Kehinde Subair to meet with the owners of event centres on proper way of handling the issue.
