Ogun Speaker Identifies Why Women Should Participate In Governance

Active participation of women in the process of governance is essential in achieving national development, hence the reason for the massive involvement of women in issues of governance in the last six years current administration in the State.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi, who disclosed this during a visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leaders in Ogun East Senatorial District, at Ago-Iwoye, explained that women folk possessed the needed capacity to contribute positively to the development of any society.

Adekunbi acknowledged the support of women, particularly in the area of policy formulation and implementation of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration since  inception, while soliciting their support at ensuring the sustainability of the legacies of the present administration as electioneering period approaches.

The Speaker in company of Honourables Adebowale Ojuri and Olayiwola Ojodu and other party Stalwarts, posited that the essence of women in political and public administration was evident in the allocation of 35 percent for females in the present administration, with an appeal to them to mobilize themselves for more political participation at all levels of government.

Adekunbi, who reiterated Governor Amosun’s commitment to women empowerment and gender equality in the State, stated that the present administration had laid a formidable foundation the total transformation of the State through all-inclusive and people oriented government which had translated to massive infrastructural development which had attracted a lot of investments to the State.

The achievements according to him, were largely as a result of the support of the proactive Legislature which made the development of all parts of the State its utmost priority.

Responding, the party faithfuls including, the General Manager, Ogun State Printing Corporation, Mrs Oyinkansola Cole, Hon. Aderounke Soyoye Canvassed for increased quota for the and Alhaja W. O.  Quadri sought for more appointment of women in government to enhance good governance.

They lauded the Governor Amosun led government for according priority to the inclusion of more women in his cabinet, while assuring that women in the State would continue to support government in achieving the success of the ongoing rebuilding mission of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration in the State.
