Oyo Commissioner Lauds Space FM’s ‘Sports Classic’

In appreciation of the ‘catch them young’ efforts of an Ibadan based radio station, the Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Barr. Abayomi Oke has thumped up Space FM for putting up a sports programme to fish out talents from Secondary schools in the state.

The commissioner disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Ibadan on the efforts of the ministry in encouraging private public partnership (PPP) to drive sports in Oyo State, saying “The directives given to us by the governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is to collaborate more with the private sector to drive sports.

Oke, however, described the on-going 2017 edition of Space FM Sports Classic which is basically for public and private secondary schools as a very good example of private sector’ efforts in helping government to revive  schools’ sports.

Finalists have emerged at the event which would come to an end on the 27th of May as part of activities marking the Children Day celebration according to Ibiwunmi Ishola of Space FM as Brightville College dominated the football and track events.

In 100 meters sprint race, Brightville College came first in male category as Government College and Triumph College ended as runners up and second runners up respectively while United Missionary College won the female category as the expense of Brightville and Eyinni High School that came second and third.

Brightville College came first in the relay race, 200 meters, 400 meters, and 4 by 400 meters relay race, while it would also confront Government College and Eyinni High School in the male and female soccer final respectively on May 27th at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Ibadan.
