N50m Bursary Award: Kwara Govt Commended By Students

The Abdulfatah Ahmed led government in Kwara State has been commended by the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) for releasing the sum of N50M for payment of bursaries to students of Kwara Origin in higher institutions across the country.

The NAKSS Senate President, Comr. Muhammad Nurudeen gave the commendation in a statement released on Monday in Ilorin, the state capital.

He noted that the bursary award is coming at a time when students are losing hope in such grant from the State government.

Nurudeen disclosed that the feat didn’t come on a platter of gold considering the reality of the economic downturn in the state and country alike.

The student leader called on the State government not to relent on its commitment to the student populace. He also urged the government to hasten action on the proposed online platform for the data gathering and grant disbursements of bursary and Scholarships to students as it will promote transparency and credibility in the system.

Nurudeen therefore congratulated the indigenous students of College of education, Ilorin, being the first set of beneficiaries for the 2017 bursary and by extension the over 1.5million Kwara students who will soon benefit from the award.

Speaking at the flag-off of the bursary award in Ilorin on Monday, the Deputy Governor, Elder Peter Kishira said the award is meant to cushion the financial burden of education of indigent students in the higher institutions of learning.

He therefore, urged the students to make the best use of the fund to meet some of their pressing needs.

The deputy governor expressed the readiness of the State government will soon compliment the bursary disbursement with Scholarship awards, which he said will be merit based.

He, therefore charged the students to be studious in their academic works to enable then qualify for the scholarship award.

Kishira also charged the chairman and members of the State Scholarship Board to exercise caution and avoid sharp practices in the disbursement of the bursaries.
