Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on all road traffic law enforcement agencies to enforce all safety measures for all vehicles plying roads in the State.

The passage of the resolution followed a motion sponsored and moved by the Minority Leader, Olawale Alausa and seconded by his Obafemi-Owode State Constituency counterpart, Hon. Tunde Sanusi at the plenary presided over by Speaker Suraju Ishola Adekunbi.

Opening debate on the motion, Hon. Alausa stressed the need for all road users especially travelers at night to adhere strictly to road rules and regulations to promote safety on roads across the State, explaining that protection of lives and property of the citizenry was part of government responsibility as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Corroborating Alausa’s view, other members including the Majority Leader and Chief Whip, Honourables Adeyinka Mafe and Idowu Olowofuja, Tunde Sanusi and Julianah Akintayo, said the motion should be enforced at the appropriate time of the day, especially at night as it would go a long way at reducing road mishaps.

The lawmakers while citing accident cases on some highways in the State also called on long vehicles to always put in place reflectors while plying roads at night so as to alert other road users.

In their contributions, the Deputy Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo and Adebiyi Adeleye charged road enforcement agencies to effectively discharge their duty for the motoring public to adhere strictly to traffic  laws and avoid extortion in the discharge of their duties.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi has described a one-time lawmaker, late Hon. Adekunjo Akinleye as a consummate teacher, articulate legislator and foremost nationalist whose legacies remained part of the foundation for excellence in the State.

Adekunbi gave the description at the plenary while eulogising the deceased lawmaker, who served between 1979 and 1983, recalling that the late Akinleye was a leader of the defunct Action Group and later Unity Party of Nigeria, where in conjunction with other leaders designed the progressives’ political roadmap still extant till date.

“I recall vividly his time as a leader of the Action Group and later Unity Party of Nigeria where, in conjunction with other leaders, designed the progressives political roadmap still extant till date”, the Speaker remarked.
