Ogun State House of Assembly has enjoined Chairmen of Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas to adopt Public -Private- Partnership approach in some of its ventures to boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for their councils.
The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Olusola Sonuga gave the charge while leading other members of the committee on the ongoing oversight visits to Ijebu Ode Local government Area, Ijebu Ode South Local Council Development Area as well as Ijebu East Local government and Ijebu East Central Localt Council Area.
Sonuga noted that there was need for the Chairmen to diversify the economy of their Council Areas with emphasis on agriculture and other agro-allied products and services so as to empower the rural people and generate more resources for the running of their councils.
Commending Ijebu-Ode Local Government Council for its efforts in cultivating one hectare of Cassava at Isire and fruit orchard, just as he equally lauded the initiative of the Ijebu East Central Local Council Development Area for providing 50 hectares of land to support the youth for agricultural practice to put an end to the menace of unemployment.
On their part, the Chairmen assured that they would consolidate on their efforts at ensuring economic diversification, especially agriculture and other revenue generation ventures, while pledging to complement the efforts of the State government by bringing qualitative and affordable education to the grassroots.
They assured that some roads in their Local government councils and LCDAs had been earmarked for rehabilitation in line with the rebuilding mission policy of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration in the State at their various Local Government council areas.
