  • Lodgers, Others Forcefully Ejected

Friday 17th November was a bad day for the management of the popular hospitality outfit, Wallan Hotel, formerly known as D’Rovans Hotel which is situated along the ever busy Ring-Road axis of Ibadan when Asset Management Corporation Of Nigeria (AMCON), a government agency stormed the premises of the hotel with armed Policemen to seal it off.

Lodgers were forcefully ejected from their rooms while costumers, staffs, shop owners and fun seekers were bullied out of the premises and big locks were placed at the entrance to officially seal-off the premises.

The big casualty of the incident was the organizer of GOTV Next Generation-Next Boxing event that booked 25 rooms and a hall for a period of three days but was denied the use after the day-two of the event as another federal parastatal from Abuja was also said to have booked 50 rooms for three days but could not spend a night before the closure.

A source close to the Aiyegbeni family told Parrot Xtra/PMParrot that the action of the government agency was bad and unlawful, “the family had gone to court to challenge the action of AMCON, Wallan Hotel is a company on its own, and late Aiyegbeni is only a shareholder in the company, our believe was that the property used as a collateral was never this hotel, but a personal property of Chief Francis Aiyegbeni located inside Iyaganku GRA”, the source disclosed.

Also speaking with Parrot Xtra/PMParrot via phone, was the legal counsel to AMCON who led the team that carried out the enforcement, Barr. Dipo Olasope, he said the action was as a result of court order over a debt of 46million naira owed a bank by the late boxing promoter Chief Francis Aiyegbeni that is believed to own the property.

The lawyer however declined to comment further, saying the issue is still before a high court and any careless statement might prejudice the outcome of the court case.
