Commonwealth Games 2018: Adegoke, Ogunlewe In 100 Meters Final

Nigeria’s Enoch Adegoke and Seye Ogunlewe both booked their places in the Men’s 100 meters final of the XXI Commonwealth Games on Sunday at the Carrara Stadium track.

It was a photo finish for Adegoke who in the semi final 2 race where he posted a time of 10.24 respectively, crossing the line ahead of South Africa’s Henricho Bruintjies.

He was also fastest to the finish line in his heat 4 finishing the race in an impressive 10.19 seconds.

Meanwhile, Ogunlewe set a season’s best of 10.20, finishing third in the same field that had South Africa’s Akani Simbine.

Both sprinters had slight blights in their techniques in the finals meters for Enoch, and off the block for Seye.

Earlier Ogho-Oghene Egwero could not beat the qualifying time in the semi final 1 when he raced against favorite, Jamaica’s Johan Blake and England’s Adam Gemili – who came in first and second respectively.

Egwero finished sixth with a time of 10.42.

The Final comes up on Monday, 1:15pm (Nigerian Time) at the Carrara Stadium Track.

Ogunlewe will run in Lane 1 in Monday’s final while Adegoke will start in Lane 5, one of the coveted middle lanes.

Jamaican Yohan Blake and Simbile are the favourites to win the top two medals in the final. Blake, who has a personal best 9.69 seconds, has already run 9.90 seconds this year.

Simbine has a personal best of 9.89 seconds and has run 9.94 seconds this year.
