Recruitment Of Secondary School Teachers Begins In Ekiti

The government of Dr Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti State has, in line with its promise to fill the existing vacancies in the teaching sector asked the Teaching Service Commission to begin the recruitment processes to fill the vacancies in Secondary Schools in the state.

The Chairman, Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Hon Babatunde Abegunde disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen in Ado Ekiti.

Hon Abegunde affirmed that the selection process would be transparent without discrimination or favouritism, adding that there has been no recruitment for over five years in the education sector in the State.

The TESCOM boss lauded Governor Fayemi for the approval of the recruitment despite the paucity of funds in the State. He stressed that the online registration would be followed by an examination at a date to be announced.

He said that the Bureau of Information and Communication Technology (BICT) has been working on the registration portal for some time and it has been well tested to ensure a smooth and user friendly registration exercise and feedback from applicants.

Hon Abegunde added that over 3000 vacancies have been identified over the years due to the retirement of teachers on regular basis noting that Ekiti State Government had to embark on the recruitment to prevent collapse of the education system.

The TESCOM boss re assured that teachers recruitment is very necessary now, especially in the rural areas adding that rural allowance are being paid to teachers working in the rural areas to motivate them.

He affirmed that Ekiti government will recruit only qualified teachers; hence the recruitment would be for holders of National Certificate of Education (NCE) and Bachelor’s degree in Education in all the subjects being taught in the secondary schools while post graduate diploma in education would be required from applicants without educational background.

He stressed that proficiency in English Language and communication skills of applicants would be considered in the recruitment, noting that these are very essential for teachers for effective teaching and learning process in the classroom.
