The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) has advocated for the traditional method of the African judicial system as a panacea to overcome the myriads of challenges confronting the country.

He further urged the Federal Government to desist from accessing more foreign loans capable of enslaving Nigerians.

The Elder stateman stated this during a public lecture to commemorate the  33rd Annual General Conference of CDHR in Lagos.

The legal luminary stated that the challenges facing the country are in order for peace and development to be restored while urging Nigerians to adopt the traditional method of settling disputes which is against the imported capitalists’ system of judgement where the winner takes it all.

The legal icon further stated that Monarchs in the African judicial system had their ways of settling conflicts with both parties present and happy at the end of the resolution.

He further urged Nigerians to highly uphold and preserve their native languages as this will enable them to be fully integrated into the African traditional culture.

He, however, chided successive Nigerian governments for their lackluster approach to governance, accusing them of emptying the treasury at the expense of the masses who voted them to power.

He said “Abacha stole N2.4 billion while President Obasanjo spent 16billion Dollars on generating electricity”.

He further extoled the virtues of late Fela Anikulapo Kuti as a true model of African culture.  He said,  “Fela dropped his father’s name Ransome and took Anikulapo which means one who has death in his coffers, that is why Fela cannot die because when you play his songs he is still alive till today”.
