Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes, EFCC, has advised Nigerian students to take ownership of the fight against corruption and financial crimes in Nigeria.

The EFCC boss who spoke through the agency’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Osita Nwajah, while receiving students of Marhum International School, Keffi, on excursion to the EFCC Headquarters on Wednesday December 1, 2021, charged the students to play their role in the fight against corruption, including demanding for what is rightfully theirs.

“We encourage you to ask your parents, leaders and  even your teachers questions whenever you see things not working or not being the way they should. By doing this, their conscience will be pricked into doing what is right,” he said. He expressed his gratitude to the students for their visit to the Commission and asked them to be attentive and take home useful lessons.

Head, Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit of the Commission, Aisha Mohammed implored the students to join hands with the EFCC “to make the Nigeria of our dream a reality.”

On his part, Chief Superintendent of the EFCC Daniel Nwaka of the Commission’s Cybercrime Unit, admonished the student to be bold and courageous “You do not have to be an EFCC staff to make a difference, you have to be bold about asking what your right is”.

He took them through what Cybercrime is all about, the merits and demerits. Nwaka cited examples of people who have made wealth and influence using the computer such as Mark Zuckerberg, Alibaba and the likes.

He, however, told the students that Cybercrimes are crimes committed using the computer and internet. He cited Hushpuppi, who is languishing in jail and cannot see his family, as an example of a cybercrime offender. He warned the students to learn to ask about the consequences of their actions while using the computer or the internet. “Learn to ask yourself what will be the effect of your actions, will it make or mar you or the society?”

The principal of Marhum International Academy, Mr. Adam Yahaya expressed gratitude to the management of EFCC for the warm reception accorded them.
