The Immediate past chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ekiti State chapter, Prince Ade Adeyemi-Adejolu has revealed that some of the challenges facing the association include low patronage from successive administrations in the state and the apathetic attitude of  PR practitioners in the state public service.

He said, “Most of the members particularly information and press officers in the public service of Ekiti State are not showing due interest in identifying with the chapter in spite of several efforts made in order for them to identity with the chapter for their professional development”.

Speaking further, he explained that part of the complaints made by members across the public service of Ekiti State was the non-recognition of NIPR certificate for their career progression among other expected benefits.

He made this revelation during the annual general meeting of the chapter in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

Prince Adejolu further appealed to the state government to encourage career progression of PR practitioners in the state and to ensure the efficient practice of Public Relation across the state by adhering to the rule that only professionally certified PR persons are hired for Public Relations engagement in the state.

In his address, the representative of NIPR President, Mallam Mukhtar Zubair Sirajo and a member of NIPR Governing Council, Dr. Gbenga Abimbola, commended the leadership style of Prince Adejolu while urging the newly elected officers to emulate and consolidate on his achievements.

Members of the newly elected officers of the chapter include  Mr. Anthony Adesua, Chairman, Chief Martins Adefisayo, Vice Chairman, Mr. Kayode Adebusuyi, Secretary, Mr. Ayodele Abere, Public Relations Executive, Dr. Gbadebo Akindele, Treasurer, MS. Bimbo Yusuf, Auditor and Prince Ade Adeyemi-Adejolu, the immediate past Chairman,  to serve as Ex-Officio 1.

Speaking further, the Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Dr.Dayo Oladebeye, said, “The place of Public Relations in the society is obviously paramount as no society can exist peacefully without effective communication”

He, however, enjoined the new executives to work harder in taking the union to greater heights.
