The Oyo State branch of Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) has condemned the murder of a survey technician by suspected ritualists in Moniya area of Ibadan.
The institution, in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday by its chairman, Surv. Lamidi Waheed Abiodun , called on government to provide adequate security for its members across the state.
“Though, the deceased was not a Registered Surveyor, and definitely not a NIS member, we are touched by his most gruesome murder, particularly with his beheading by the heartless criminals who are suspected to have killed him for ritual. We pray God to give the family the fortitude to bear this huge loss.
“Information available to the NIS confirmed that the deceased was a survey technician until his death,” he said.
Abiodun commended the Oyo State Police Command for apprehending the suspected killers of the survey technician and urged them to build on the success by diligently prosecuting the suspects.
“We urge all security agencies to join hands and work with community leaders in strengthening security around bushy areas where surveyors mostly work.
“Security agencies should publicise their contact telephone lines and other communication channels to make it easy for residents to contact them to volunteer useful information that can lead to prevention of crimes and arrest of suspected criminals,” the statement added.
