A yet-to-be-identified male adult lost his life after a commercial bus rammed into a street light pole at Idimu in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

It was learnt that two other occupants in the bus sustained varying degrees of injury in the incident.

The report also said that the bus was en route to Iyana Ipaja when the incident happened.

An eyewitness who identified himself as Wasiu told our correspondent that the bus was at top speed, some meters away from Idimu bus-stop, when it lost control ramming into the pole on the median.

He said, “The incident happened at Alhaja bus-stop, just some meters away from Idimu, at about 4 am. The bus was speeding, and probably unknown to him that there was a sharp bend here at Alhaja. So the driver was trying to negotiate the bend when he lost control and hit the pole on the median. The impact made the one sitting beside the driver fall off the bus, thereby hitting his head on the floor and dying instantly.”

Another eyewitness, Demola Raji, said two other occupants, including the driver, were immediately taken to the hospital.

The two other occupants were seriously injured. We managed to pull them out of the vehicle and quickly rushed them to the hospital,” Raji said.

Residents lamented recurring accidents at the spot due to the sharp bend.

Some motorists, who are unfamiliar with bends, ended up having accidents. This is what we have seen from time to time. We once considered reaching out to the government on what could be done, but we later realised that there is no other way than for motorists to be careful when plying the route,” another resident who identified herself as Funmlola said.

Our correspondent learnt that the deceased body was later taken away by his family for burial.

PUNCH Metro reported that two separate accidents in the Ojota area of Lagos State and on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway on Saturday claimed three lives.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, and the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, disclosed this in separate statements on Sunday.

According to Taofiq, a pedestrian lost his life after being crushed by a truck while trying to cross the expressway at the Ojota bus stop in Lagos State.

Taofiq noted that the truck, while driving on the carriageway of the expressway, hit the pedestrian, who was violating the use of the pedestrian bridge.

In Ogun, Akinbiyi noted that two drivers lost their lives following a head-on collision between a truck and a luxury bus along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.

According to the TRACE spokesperson, an investigation revealed that the accident occurred when the driver of the luxurious bus drove in the wrong direction and collided with the truck.
