Nigeria striker, Kelechi Iheanacho is set to hold talks over a potential contract extension with Celtic after their Scottish Cup final on Saturday.
Iheanacho’s one-year deal with the club will expire after this season, but his performances during their league title run and cup campaign appear to have put him in a strong position to negotiate an extension.
The 29-year-old moved to Scotland after terminating his contract with Sevilla and enjoyed a bright start to life at Celtic.
Injuries later curtailed his impact before he rediscovered form, playing a key role off the bench as Celtic clinched the Scottish Premiership title on the final matchday against Hearts.
The former Manchester City striker made headlines after scoring a dramatic 99th-minute penalty in Celtic’s 3-2 victory over Motherwell in the penultimate league game, a result that sent the Scottish Premiership title race to the final day.
Iheanacho has been quizzed about his future at Celtic, with the club holding the option of extending his deal for another year.
“I think after 90 minutes on Saturday, then we’ll talk about that,” the former Leicester City striker said.
The hunger Iheanacho has shown is expected to spur Celtic towards activating a one-year renewal option, according to Football Insider.
His credentials are further boosted by the potential exit of Daizen Maeda, who has admitted his desire to play in the Premier League.
According to the outlet, Celtic are already at risk of losing multiple stars and will be keen to retain some key players.
