Nigerians have been requested to be ambassadors of peace, issue based campaigns and national unity for the sustainable of democracy in the country.
The Director General National Orientation Agency, NOA, Malam Lanre Issa Onilu made the call during a sensitization workshop on voter education for Community Mobilization officers of the twenty local governments of the state organized by NOA and the state ministry of Information and communication held in Bauchi.
Represented by the Zonal Director North East Alhaji Nuru Yusuf Kobi ,Malam Lanre Onilu said instead of being used as agents of destruction and political manipulation they should participate peacefully and responsively in the democratic system to attain good governance.
According to him democracy becomes stronger when citizens participate actively and responsively in electoral process.
He explained that voter education is not a merely a government activity but a national duty hence the need for Community Mobilization officers to educate and restore confidence of the people in the electoral process.
Earlier,the State Director National Orientation Agency Bauchi Alhaji Nasiru Mahe said the workshop was organized in order to address the issues of voter apathy and the need to get registered in the ongoing voter registration exercise and to bridge the gap between INEC’s responsibilities and public expectations as well as to equip NOA’s Community Mobilization officers with knowledge to accurately mobilize their communities on electoral matters.
Alhaji Nasiru Mahe urged them to restore confidence and and eliminate voter apathy and guarantee an election that is undeniably free.
