Renowned Ifa priest and cultural custodian, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon, has called on residents of Osun State to maintain peace as they troop out in large numbers to vote for their candidates of choice on Saturday during the gubernatorial poll.

Chief Elebuibon made this clarion call during the week while speaking with PMParrot in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.

The respected traditionalist also submitted: “We have carried out a series of electoral advocacy campaigns, encouraging people to vote wisely and shun electoral violence.

“I therefore urge both politicians and the electorate, especially the people of Osun State, to live together in harmony and peacefully vote for the candidate of their choice.

He also spoke about the need for Nigerians to live peacefully together.

His words “Propaganda is having a negative effect on the Yoruba ethnic group especially. All religious bodies, including Christians and Muslims, should endeavour to live together in peace. People should not be afraid or feel discriminated against because of their religious beliefs.

While speaking generally about Nigerian politicians, Chief Elebuibon said “Our politicians are often not trustworthy. They do not always uphold the promises they make during election campaigns. They also fail to respect our culture, norms, and values. I am convinced that if they are made to swear to their oath of office in the traditional way during inauguration, they would be less likely to engage in misconduct.”

When asked how he has been able to remain steadfast in his promotion of Yoruba culture and traditional religion, he said, “first and foremost, I give thanks to Eledumare (the Almighty God). He bestowed upon the Yoruba heritage its spiritual power and wisdom, as well as the knowledge of how to use it”.
