Ogun Legislator Says MAPOLY Has Enough Structures For ‘Varsity Status

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) has put in place the required structures and equipment to meet its recently proclaimed status of University of Science and Technology.

The Chairman, State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Victor Fasanya stated this today shortly after leading other members of the Committee on oversight visit to assess the state of infrastructure and equipment at the institution.

Hon. Fasanya pointed out that there was no citadel of learning that could achieve sufficient infrastructural facilities, but there was always a room for improvement, saying that MAPOLY had over the years achieved academic excellence and infrastructural development which qualified it to be upgraded to a university.

“No university can have sufficient facilities, because there is always a room for improvement but so far so good, what we have seen is enough for the transformation for which the school has been upgraded from polytechnic to university,” he remarked.

He lauded the management of the institution for putting in place conducive learning environment in terms of structures and equipment through internally generated revenue.

Responding, the Rector of the institution, Prof. Oludele Itiola, said the institution had five schools consisting of 26 Departments, explaining that some of the structures recently put in place were three- in-one 1,000-seater hall housing the School of Communication and Information Technology and central store for academic materials and other equipment.

He listed other existing structures upgraded to include lecture halls, the school library and the installation of 11kva step down power station to boost electricity in   the institution, saying that the management also expended N100m on procurement of modern equipment to all departments preparatory to the upcoming accreditation of some courses for the institution.

Prof. Itiola also lauded the recent conversion of the institution to a full-fledged university and assured that the school remained committed to producing highly skilled individuals that could drive the technological advancement of the State and the nation.
