Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has assured all Sports Federations that his office will not interfere in activities of the boards after inauguration.

Dalung, who last week announced election guidelines into Sports Federations for the 25 June polls, added that the recently adopted guidelines are basically a “pre-election document” and intends to end his involvement with the elections there.

Often, Federations appoint consultants who carry out their daily businesses; contrary to international norm, but Minister clearly stressed he’d not intervene.

The Minister stated that the boards will decide how they want to operate and who to engage in the cause of their operations.

Meanwhile, United World Wrestling (UWW) Technical Commission member, Daniel Igali, has called for a review that allows “volunteers” vie for office.

Igali, a two-term President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, insists the new rules violate international laws.

As part of the provisions of the new guidelines, persons who have held the office of President for two terms, cannot return.

Thus, he has urged the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, to reconsider a specific section of the guideline, because ‘Volunteers carry a mandate based on their volition.’
