The Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission) has concluded arrangements to hold the sixth edition of its trademark ‘Yoruba Historical Conversation’ on Friday, June 23, 2017.

The highly enlightening programmes is the first one to be held after the untimely demise of the Commission’s pioneering Director General, Dipo Famakinwa.

In a chat with PMParrotng, the spokesperson of the commission, Mr Seye Oyeleye confirmed that the guest lecturer this time around is Professor Olawale Albert and he will be treating the topic, ‘Rethinking Yoruba Unity in an Era of Alternative History’.

Oyeleye spoke more about the guest lecturer. His words “Professor Isaac Olawale Albert is a Nigerian Professor of African History, Peace and Conflict Studies and the pioneer Director of the Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies (IPSS), University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He was the Director of the University’s Institute of African Studies from August 2010 to July 2013.”

The DAWN Commission man also revealed that other prominent scholars will also be on ground to interact with other guests to make the day more memorable.

He added that “The conversations that shall be done under a relaxed atmosphere in our office, located on the 10th floor of Cocoa House, Dugbe Ibadan.”

DAWN Commission’s focus as a development agency includes creating fresh template of organisation for the sustained progress of Western Nigeria and its people. Its mandate involves creating conversations and building the necessary coalition that would ensure that Yorubas do not lose their arts, culture, history and civilization as a people.

The Commission is equally concerned about the loss of Yorubas’ social orientation and heritage, especially the preservation of their history. The neglect of the teaching of history and the lack of a sense of history has combined to create a generation with very scant regard for values.
