The Oyo State Multi Door House Bill, 2017 has been passed into law by the state’s House of Assembly.

The bill which was meant to address domestic cases and also serve as alternative dispute resolution was passed into law after it has been read for the third time during Tuesday’s plenary.

After deliberations by the lawmakers, the House constituted itself into committee of the whole headed by the Speaker, Hon. Michael Adeyemo to consider the bill clause by clause before it was passed into law.

While speaking on the bill shortly after the plenary, the chairman House Committee on Information, Hon. Joshua Oyebamiji explained that the primary purpose was to provide other avenues for settlement of cases instead of following the normal proceedings and prolonging issues at the courts.

On other matters of urgent public importance, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Kehinde Subair representing Ibadan South West Constituency I called the attention of the House to the worrisome public disturbance, thuggery and violent crime around Isale Osi, Iyana Asuni, Born Photo and Gege in Ibadan South West local government as a result of the youth carnival organized on Sunday 22nd of October, 2017.

According to the Majority Leader, “the carnival was hijacked by hoodlums in the area and during the mayhem, many properties of innocent citizens were vandalized in the area.”

The Speaker of the House, Hon. Adeyemo and some lawmakers in their contributions called on the security personnel and other stakeholders to work harmoniously in ensuring peace in the area.

Also, the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Olafisoye Akinmoyede representing Lagelu state constituency presented a motion titled “Passionate Appeal to State Joint Local Government Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) to Prioritize the Payment of Local Government Staff Salary.

Hon. Akinmoyede urged the House to consider further amendment of the provisions of state joint local government account (distribution) Law, 2002 to accommodate the present challenges experienced by some local government over irregular payment of their workers salary.

According to him, “the event that led to the issue of introduction of state joint local government account in early 2000 was as a result of the scenario of zero allocation syndrome that was experienced by some local governments in the State in order to save them from collapse. With the efforts of the state government then through the enacted law by the 4th Assembly, in Oyo State – this is what the Metropolitan Local Governments are enjoying up till today.” Hon. Akinmoyede submitted.

Similarly, Hon. Silas Okunlola representing Iwajowa state constituency presented a report of the committee on Health on the measures taken to prevent the outbreak of monkey-pox in Oyo State pursuant to the resolution of the House on Thursday 12th October, 2017.

The House has adjourned its plenary to Tuesday 31st October, 2017.
