The Ogun State House of Assembly has explained that the Community Development Association Law, 2017 when operational would further strengthen the self-help activities and projects of Community Development Associations across the State as a veritable tool in nation building.

Members of the State House of Assembly made the remarks while contributing to the debate on the bill titled “H.B. No. 19/OG/2017- A bill for a law to provide for the registration of Community Development Association and for other matters Incidental Thereto or Connected therewith”.

Opening debate on the bill, a member representing Ifo II Constituency,  Hon. Ganiyu Oyedeji explained that the bill was meant to guide the operation of the CDAs, which according to him remained  pivotal in the provision of developmental projects,  remarking that the overall development of the society concerned all and sundry.

Oyedeji pointed out that the CDAs members had adopted the self-help projects to provide basic fundamental needs, using their time, money and other resources in developing their various communities as government alone could not shoulder the responsibility.

Corroborating Oyedeji’s submission, others honourable members including Rasaq Oduntan, Jimi Otukoya, Idowu Olowofuja  and Dare Kadiri, described the bill as long overdue, saying that the bill was put in place to encourage public participation in governance to further aid development in communities across the State.

Contributing, the Deputy Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo and honourables Oloyiwola Ojodu and Tunde Sanusi, remarked that the laudable contributions of the associations towards national development required an operational law to strengthen and guide its operation, adding that such would assist in complementing government’s development efforts.

Responding, Speaker Suraju Ishola Adekunbi applauded his colleague -lawmakers for their robust contributions to the bill and thereafter committed it to the Committee of the Whole House led  by his Deputy, Olakunle Oluomo for further legislative actions.
