Oyo SWAN Ready To Hold Workshop For Members

The leadership of the Sport Writers Association of Nigeria, Oyo State chapter has concluded plans to host a workshop for its members.

The theme of the workshop, ‘Towards Better Professionalism and Vibrancy’ will hold on November 28 at the Indoor Sports Hall of Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

According to the Chairman of the Workshop’s Organising Committee, who is also a former Chairman of the Association, Femi Okenla, the workshop is aimed at educating members on Modern Day Sports Reporting and Ethics of Sport Journalism.

Okenla stated this in a press statement signed and made available by the Secretary of Association Adewale Tijani.

He added that Zonal Director, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Miss Olajumoke Coker will deliver a paper on ‘Ethics of Sports Journalism’.

Other speakers at the workshop include an ace sports journalist Kayode Tijani who will take the participants through the ‘Dos and Don’ts of Modern Day Sports Reportage’.

The Honorable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Yomi Oke will give a keynote address, as efforts are being made to bring the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Cultures and Tourism, Toye Arulogun on board.

Mr Arulogun is expected to speak on the ‘Dynamism of Sports Writing and Presentation’.

“As you can see, sport is the thing in the society today, and there is no way we can separate sport reporters from sports. And in order to equip our members to make them give sports fans the best, we are putting together a workshop. And I am optimistic it will achieve its set target”, Okenla said.

Also speaking on the forthcoming workshop, the Chairman, Oyo state chapter of SWAN, Niyi Alebiosu explained that it is being organised to make sports writers in the state more professional and efficient.

“Our desire is to make sports writers in Oyo state the best among the rest. As an association based in the Pacesetter State, we cannot afford to be the second best. This workshop is aimed at enhancing the performance of our members”, Alebiosu said.
