Dr Kayode Fayemi’s Government in Ekiti State has distributed cheques worth N215,873,268.00 to 37 communities across the state for projects completion.

The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, while flagging – off the distribution at the Government House ground in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital, said the opportunity would enable the communities complete their on-going and abandoned self – help projects.

Dr. Fayemi, who said the programme, as one of his electioneering campaign promises would ensure all projects abandoned after his first term in office are completed.

Governor Fayemi, who called on the communities to use the money for the projects revealed that contractors handing the 5-kilometre per Local Government roads across the state have been recalled and that work will soon commence on the roads.

Calling for absolute transparency in executing  the projects, Fayemi urged the contractors to abide by the contractual agreement on the projects assigned to each of them.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Ayoola Owolabi appreciated the Governor for his concern and prompt intervention at ensuring that those projects, which some communities have seemingly lost hopes on their completion are revisited and completed.

Mr. Owolabi, who described the demonstration of the Governor’s commitment to the payment of the counterpart fund of N19.450 million on behalf of the benefiting communities appealed to Traditional rulers, community leaders and all stakeholders of the benefiting communities to ensure adequate supervision and close monitoring of vendors involved in the execution of the approved projects to avoid unnecessary hitch.

The Permanent Secretary advised concerned communities to ensure prompt payment of their own financial contributions as well as involve the residents of the benefiting communities in executing the projects which would further enhance the socio-economic development of such communities.

In his remarks, the General Manager, Ekiti State Community Social Development Agency (EKSCSDA), Mr. Steven Bamisaye urged the benefiting communities to make the successful completion of the projects a priority.

Mr. Bamisaye also charged the communities to ensure that the projects are completed according to specification through thorough supervision and monitoring of the vendors handling the projects.
