The Kayode Fayemi-led administration in Ekiti State has revealed plans to soon kick-start construction of ring-roads to ease traffic congestion and complement the prospective rail project of the Federal government.

The Special Adviser on Works,  Infrastructure and Transport, Hon. Sunday Adunmo made this known while fielding questions from Journalists in Ado Ekiti recently.

Mr. Adunmo who disclosed that the project would cover areas such as lworoko, Aare, Afao, Ago Aduloju, lkere and lgbara Odo-Ekiti, said the project would be carried out in three phases.

Other areas to be covered, according to the Special Adviser are llawe, lgede, Esure, Eyio, Ifaki-Ekiti amongst others.

Hon. Adunmo blamed the poor state of roads in the State on poor maintenance culture by the generality of the people.

He said all the earth moving and road construction equipment purchased by government which had not been put into use in the last five years would be fully mobilized to rehabilitate and fix all potholes on the roads across the state.

“We have a palliative measure for potholes across the state. The current Governor bought some heavy construction equipment such as asphalt plant, pavers, Rollers, amongst others during his first term in office, but unfortunately, none of these equipment was put to use by immediate past administration. We shall put these plants to use. I can assure you that potholes will soon vanish from our roads,” Adunmo affirmed.

The Special Adviser said the current government was ready to provide basic amenities at farm settlements and villages across the state, noting that such move would not only stop unnecessary rural-urban migration, it would equally boost agricultural productivity in the rural areas.

He also assured Ekiti people that work would soon commence on the approved Federal government’s rail project as well as construction of lkere-Akure dual carriage way.

Hon. Adunmo advised leadership of successive administration to ensure continuity and completion of government projects noting that abandoned projects are usually completed at higher cost.

“We should know that Ekiti State belongs to us all. So, we should learn to continue from where any administration stops. The cost of roofing the abandoned Civic Centre project has now become double of what would have been used if the successive administration continued and completed the project. All these are detrimental to the progress of our state”, he lamented.

He said the commencement of construction work on New Iyin-Ekiti Road would kick-start an infrastructural revolution that would become a reference point in the country.
