The impeachment of the Chairman, Irepo Local Government, Alhaji Adediran Asufu and his Vice, Deaconess Ojedele Victoria by seven members of the legislative arm of the local government has been upturned by the Oyo State House of Assembly.

The Speaker, Hon. Joshua Olagunju Ojo at Tuesday’s plenary disclosed that sections 20 and 21 of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended has specified procedures to follow while impeachment is being carried out.

He said that the seven members of legislative arm of Irepo Local Government failed to follow the laid down procedures, noting that it is the responsibility of the state assembly to ensure that peace reigns.

Hon. Olagunju, while urging indigenes and residents of Irepo Local Government to remain calm, called on the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to look into the matter and report back to the House within a week for necessary action.

The Speaker ordered that both Chairman, Alhaji Adediran Asifu and his Deputy, Deaconess Ojedele Victoria should continue to carry out their constitution responsibilities as chairman and vice chairman of Irepo Local Government.

In another development, the Oyo State House of Assembly has summoned Commissioners for Environment, Works and Transport, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and management of Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) to appear before it to clarify issues affecting discipline and free flow of traffic on roads in the state.

The decision of the House to do this was as a result of the motion moved by Hon. Olusegun Ajanaku (Ibadan South West 2) on “Urgent Need to Prevent Indiscriminate Parking of Vehicles Especially Commercial Vehicles on Roads and Junctions”.

Hon. Ajanaku stated that government needs to come up with clear-cut policies to regulate road side parking, noting that indiscriminate parking of vehicles has resulted into undue accidents and many lives have been lost in the process.

He reiterated that it is imperative for government to act promptly to address the issue in order to create enabling environment and improve the condition of living of the people in the state.

While passing the resolution, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Joshua Ojo called on the clerk of the House to write the Ministry of Environment, Work and Transport, NURTW and OYRTMA to appear before the House on Tuesday, May 7, 2019.
