Be Alive To Your Responsibilities, Ekiti Forestry Officers Told

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Gbenga Agbeyo has charged Forestry Officers across the State to be alive to their official responsibilities.

Hon. Agbeyo, who gave the charge while touring Forestry Offices, Offices of the Associations of Timber Traders and Saw millers at Oye, Ido, and Moba Local Governments areas, cautioned the officers against sharp practices. He charged them to live above board and not betray the trust and confidence reposed in them by government.

The present administration, according to him was poised to improve the Internally Generated Revenue to enable it embark on meaningful projects that would impact positively on the lives of the people.

Agbeyo advised both the Foresters and members of the Associations to work assiduously to curb flitching activities and other unwholesome activities that have become rampart in the sector.

The Commissioner, who stressed the commitment of government to the welfare of its citizens, told the two Associations to form a Cooperative Society that would assist them access government’s assistance in all ramifications.

Hon. Agbeyo said efforts are on to embark on aggressive regeneration of trees to prevent the forests from going into extinction

Responding, the Forestry Officers, Adeyemo Kayode, Rotimi Ayodeji and Ogunremi Olorundare, who spoke at various Offices visited promised to live up to expectation while calling on government to help renovate their dilapidated offices.

The Chairman of Timber Trade Association, Mr. Segun Akinola, in his remarks urged members to support government efforts in rejuvenating forests across the state by planting trees in their different areas for future purpose.

Also, the Chairman of Saw millers Association, Mr. Tijani Ganiyu, who informed the gatherings that the disputes between the two Associations had been resolved, thanked the Commissioner for his prompt intervention that finally settled the lingering dispute between the Associations.

He implored members of the Associations to support the present Administration as government was always ready to assist them.
