Oyo Assembly To Screen Local Government Service Commission Chairman, Others Next Week

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has said that all the five members of the Local Government Service Commission nominated by the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde will be screened by the House next week Tuesday.

Hon. Ogundoyin disclosed this during Tuesday’s plenary shortly after reading a letter from the governor requesting for the approval of names of members of the state Local Government Service Commission.

In the letter forwarded by the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde and read by the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, approval of Dr. Remi Ayodele as the Chairman of the commission and Alhaji Oyesina Oyedeji and Mr. John Adisa Oke as full time members was sought.

The names of Alhaji Oke Taiwo and Mrs. Nike Arewa were also included as part time members of the commission.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has directed all the nominees to submit photocopies of their credentials to the House on or before Friday, 25th October, 2019 ahead of the screening exercise which holds on Tuesday next week.

In the same vein, the lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North state constituency, Hon. Olawumi Bimbo Oladeji has called on relevant stakeholders to stand against Pedophilia rampaging the society.

Hon. Oladeji, while presenting a motion titled, “Curbing the Menace of Pedophilia In Oyo State” said that sexual abuse and violence has become an age-long social problem in the society particularly against minors.

The lawmaker identified lack of severe punishment for the perpetrators as reason for the increasing rate of the menace.

She disclosed that efforts are in top gear to come up with a bill that will enunciate penalties against the act.

Hon. Oladeji called on National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Young Women Christian Association (YWCA), Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) and other relevant stakeholders to engage in adequate sex education for children and how to protect themselves against sexual abuse.

While passing the resolution, the Speaker, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin directed the mover of the motion, who is also the Chairperson, House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Hon. Olawumi Bimbo Oladeji to work hand in hand with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion on how to initiate a bill to address issue of pedophiles in the state.
