Nigerians in Diaspora Organization, Americas (NIDOA), USA has expressed disappointment and outrage at President Donald Trump’s suspension of issuance of US immigrant visas to Nigerians.

The group made their stand known in a statement signed by both Patence Key and Dr Yinka Tella, Chairman of NIDOA and PRO respectively. It was made available to PMParrot on Wednesday.

Said the group “Our disappointment stems from the systemic failure of Nigeria’s security architecture that has enabled Boko Haram and the ISIS global terrorist network to cause more than 27000 deaths, while displacing about 2.3 million persons in the last 10 years,” Ms. Patience Key, Chairman of NIDO Americas, USA, said.

“We are outraged because the Trump administration has exploited this unsavory situation in our Nigerian homeland to further its unfortunate agenda of pandering to the most extreme elements of its base.”

Ranked as the most educated and productive immigrant community in the United States, Nigerian immigrants are overwhelmingly law abiding, hard-working, and ethically-driven.

“While acknowledging the federal government’s efforts to address the security data and information-sharing issues referenced by the US government in taking this action, NIDO Americas, USA is calling on Nigerians at home and abroad to see this development as an opportunity to rededicate themselves to the cause of building a new and better Nigeria that works for its people.

“We encourage a focused and firm stand on doing what is right for the Nigerian people. Demanding good governance, accountability and an effective security apparatus is a sine qua non. We must place special value on the life, welfare and properties of the Nigerian people.

“That is the basic duty of any responsible government. Let us rise and act decisively to end the insurgency and do everything possible to put smiles on the faces of the average Nigerian, not just the elite,” the NIDOA USA chairman said.

Ms. Key announced that the organization has developed blueprints on various aspects of Nigeria’s security situation, economy and polity, which are being shared with stakeholders.
