In an effort to boost food production in Ogbomoso South Local Government, the Caretaker Chairman of the council, Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy (OOT) has distributed free fertilizers to not less than 150 farmers.
The council boss, who officially unveiled the distribution exercise during the week at the Lagbami Osekun Civic Centre, said the gesture was in line with the state government’s resolve to boost food production.
Hon. Oyedokun disclosed that increasing demand for food supply due to rapid growth in human population has warranted agricultural intensification in the last few decades, and hence his commitment to this initiative.
The Chairman said that all the 150 farmers were selected across wards that made up the local government. He added that each of them has one farm land or above for this programme.
The wards, according to Hon. Oyedokun include Akata, Alapata, Arowomole, Ibapon, Ijeru 1, Ijeru 2, Ilogbo, Isoko, Lagbedu, and Oke Ola.
The Chairman reiterated that the gesture will go a long way to assist farmers in the council area in boosting their farm activities.
Speaking at the event, the Onpetu of Ijeru, Oba Sunday Olagbami commended the initiative of the chairman for deeming it fit to provide succour at this crucial time when farmers are languishing as a result of dearth of rainfall.
The monarch called on all politicians in Ogbomoso land to unite irrespective of party affiliations to form a common front to move the land forward.
Oba Olagbami maintained that many benefits have eluded the land due to lack of unity among them. He urged them to join hands together with whoever is in position of power to move Ogbomoso land forward.
One of the speakers at the event, who is also the Supervisor for Agric in the council area, Hon. Mobolade Ajibade, identified the distribution of  fertilizers to farmers across the towns in the local government as first of its kind.
He reiterated that the Chairman of Ogbomoso South Local Government, Oyedokun has demonstrated his commitment to the development of agriculture in the local government.
Hon. Ajibade charged the farmers to make good use of the fertilizers to achieve the designed objective.
In attendance included traditional rulers, representatives of CAN, League of Imams and traditional worshippers, PDP Chairman in the local government and members among others.
