In a bid to restore Bola Ige Market, Gbagi back to international standard, the Oyo State House of Assembly committee on Commerce, Trade and Investment has ordered stop work on every ongoing construction at the market pending the completion of investigation by the committee.

The committee gave the order during the stakeholders’ meeting held at Caucus Room of the House of Assembly, Secretariat, Ibadan on Wednesday.

Committee Chairman, Hon. Akintunde Olajide, said that the essence of the meeting is to change the face of the market and restore it back to international standard. He noted that the decision of the meeting was in line with the resolution of the whole House to make the market attractive in terms of facilities.

Hon. Akintunde lamented that there are lots of illegal structures which are out of master plan and they are affecting smooth operations at the market.

The lawmaker cited activities of some people who are hell bent on converting toilet facility, generator house and parking space into shops. He added that many have succeeded in illegally extending their shops which is not in line with original plan and defacing the market.

Hon. Akintunde explained that in the course of investigation, all shop owners must provide their approval to ensure that it is in line with existing master plan of the market.

The committee Chairman, therefore, ordered that pending the investigation by the committee, all ongoing construction work in the market should stop to allow for smooth oversight function of the committee.

The Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Hon. Adebisi Adebisi explained that the present administration in Oyo State is currently working on the restructuring of Bola Ige Market.

The meeting was attended by the executive and Board of Trustees of the market led by Alhaji Yekinni Abass and representatives of Bureau of Physical Planning, Oyo State.
