A University don, Professor Isaac Ukpokolo of the University of Ibadan (UI), has urged Nigerians to give education a priority while advocating for the inclusion of the study of philosophy in Nigeria’s basic educational curriculum.
The Don stated this at the 2021 PAN International conference held at the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, recently.
The University don stated that there is a strong inter-connection between philosophy and other areas of human affair, stating that in other to solve some of the challenges of social decadence, philosophy must be given top priority.
He, however, suggested that schools across board should include in their curriculum basic education on morality, ethics for youths and students in order to help militate against ignorance that is aiding societal decadence.
He further charged the media to be aware of their responsibilities as the watchdogs of the society.
Also, the President of Philosophers Association of Nigeria (PAN) Prof Jim Ijenwa Unah further acknowledged the existing relationship between Philosophy, Medicine, Engineering and other professional disciplines while calling for a collaboration with other disciplines in order to tackle the prevailing moral decadence in the society.
