Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, a former member of the House of Representatives and All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant in Ekiti state has urged the leadership of the   party in the state not to jettison the idea of picking its governorship candidate from the Southern Senatorial district of the state.

Bamidele popularly known as Fappy by his admirers made this statement during an interactive session with journalists recently in Ado Ekiti.

He further stated that he is more ready to serve the people of the state in the capacity of a governor while highlighting his constant communication with the grassroots as a huge boost to his chances.

He, however, stated that his recent declaration as an aspirant in the state has unsettled some politicians who felt threatened because of his interest to serve the people of Ekiti.

He said, “I once ran a campaign for three years preceding the 2018 general elections. I did not get the ticket and I even turned down the chance of going to the Senate because I believe it was the turn of another local government. I am a rooted politician that can change things and that is why some people are very unsettled”.

Speaking on the agitation of the zoning of the ticket to Ekiti South Senatorial District, he said,  “The agitation is morally right even though the region is not enforcing it but it will do the party a lot of good to pick the flag bearer from the region. We are yet to have a governor from the South and let me say this, if the APC fails to produce their candidate from the South, then we will lose the election”.

He further maintained that the idea of imposition will have an adverse effect on the party while encouraging the people of the state to look beyond immediate gratifications in electing their leaders.

Honourable Bamidele further stated that the absence of internal democracy among political parties is the major reason the National Assembly is pushing for direct mode of primary election in picking party candidates.
