The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams has emphatically submitted that Nigeria as a nation may not last beyond the next two years if those in power refuse to urgently carry out what he called ‘clinical restructuring’.

He made this submission while featuring on a recorded radio interview which was aired on Lagelu 96.7fm, Felele, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State on Saturday.

The Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) leader explained further that the problem with Nigeria is more than insecurity saying that this is just about one out of the 50 serious challenges facing the country.

Gani Adams, while speaking with Temitayo Oyeladun (Aabo Oro) of Lagelu FM said further “the problem with Nigeria started when the agreement with the founding fathers of the country at independence was breached. The country was supposed to be administered using unitary system of government and this was implemented until the military intervention of January 15, 1966. That was when the arrangement was tampered with.

“History recorded it that our civil war broke out a year after that – and the country has not been really progressing since then.”

While speaking more about the restructuring issue, Gani Adams opined that regionalism is the best option to adapt adding that the National Assembly comprising of the House of Representatives and the Senate should urgently take bold steps to carry out the process.

He spoke further “I am so sure that the country will not exist after two years if restructuring is not carried out. I saw this vividly in my dreams. And, apart from this, it is quite logical for the three major tribes in the country to be partially independent so that strengths and weaknesses can be addressed.

“I am not saying all this because I am the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland. I have neither gun nor cutlass. There is just too much injustice in the country. The Federal Government has saddled itself with unnecessary burden. Take power for example, what business does the FG have with this critical aspect of the economy? See, those against restructuring are just thinking of themselves in terms of income and what they will ‘eat’. As Nigerians, we need to be truthful to and with ourselves.

“If the Federal Government wants to prevent disintegration of the country, it must take urgent steps to carry out restructuring.”

Aare Adams used the opportunity to salute Professor Banji Akintoye, Sunday Adeyemo Igboho and even Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State for standing firm on the fight to correct the numerous injustices being experienced by the people of the South Western part of Nigeria.
