Acclaimed columnist, Chief Tola Adeniyi has been talking about day the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi openly berated and ignored a handshake offered by a sitting governor.

The former Managing Director of Daily Times of Nigeria spoke while featuring on a recorded radio show broadcast on 32fm Radio Station in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State on Monday.

Even though Chief Adeniyi did not mention the name of the affected governor, he was able to paint the picture of what actually transpired that day.

According to him, “the governor had arrived at an event held in Osogbo, Osun State in connection with the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) and he was exchanging pleasantries with guests.

“When he got to where the Alaafin was, he stretched out his hands to Oba Adeyemi.

“Do you know what the monarch did? He slapped away the hand of the governor as if he was playing table tennis!

“He then uttered some words like ‘se iwo o ni eko ni’ (do you not have home training) and some other unprintable words”.

Earlier before these submissions, Chief Adeniyi had been asked to comment on the recent Iseyin declaration by former President Olusegun Obasanjo against some traditional rulers in Oyo State.

The respected columnist’s response “Yes, I believe he was rude to them but then, was he rude to real monarchs? Can we also say that the man who was rude is a real Yorubaman? Could he have done the same thing to the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi?

“You see, a lot of things are wrong. And you will understand why things are wrong with our Obas. They have started submitting themselves to Pastors who have been touching their heads to pray for them”.

Chief Adeniyi also carpeted Nigerian politicians saying “they are wicked and selfish. They have no mercy, and they are not deep thinkers. I can also say they are not forward-looking. If they are like this, can they offer what they do not have”?

When specifically asked about what he thinks about the Bola Tinubu presidency, he said “I don’t care where you come from, whether you are Ibo, Hausa or Yoruba, or Effik, you must have genuine interest of the masses at heart. Most of our politicians are bad people.

“As for Tinubu, I do not have anything personal against him. As a private citizen, many people have been talking about how benevolent he is. They said if you enter his home a sad man, you will leave as a very happy man. But Tinubu is not government. He alone cannot be referred to as ‘government’, there are others with him.”
