Dominion is God’s will for us. From creation, God designed us to have dominion over all situations of life. “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Genesis 1:28). God gave Adam charge over all the creatures and made them to answer to him.
Children of God, it is not in God’s plan to have any situation have dominion over us. Whether it is money, sickness, failure, or anything whatsoever, good or bad, we are created and positioned to dominate. Circumstances do not dominate people. Circumstances only magnify the nature or attitude of people. The way human beings are created, what they exhibit is what is inherent in them. If anyone lives recklessly in a society that gives him the latitude to live without control or supervision, it is because inherent in him is recklessness, and not because the society allows it. Therefore, it is incumbent on you to understand that situations are meant to be under our control and should under no circumstance be pointed at them as the reason for what we do.
Friends, you must never allow any situation to dictate your life pattern or attitude. He created you for victory, success, good health. If you ever faltered, you caused it. Either you chose to allow situations to dominate you, embraced failure as a lifestyle, or opted for the path of defeat. All that God has done is for your dominion. “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you” (Luke 10:19).
Not even sin is allowed to have dominion over you (Roman 6:14). If you understand the nature, God has given to you- that of dominion- you will never suffer any anguish or defeat anymore. Dominion is your heritage.
What is Dominion?
God gave the authority to humankind. He has given you authority over everything on earth. Dominion refers to a situation in which God has delegated His authority to you and me. He created the earth the entire earth and gives us control. He has given us charge over His earthly creation. Being in charge is God’s intention and not a happenstance. We have no business therefore struggling to be in control. You are divinely and naturally in a position to be in charge. All things are put under your feet.
The Source of Your Dominion
Where does your authority of dominion come from? It is directly from God (Genesis 1:26-28). In addition, Numbers 23:19 says that God is not a man that He should lie. Has He said it that you have dominion? If He has said it, then so it is. Isaiah 55:10 validates the position that God’s word is eternal and incontrovertible or assailable. We have authority over every situation- physical, financial, emotional and spiritual.
Putting Dominion in Perspective
Friends, God did not say we should go and lord over other people, covet and seize what belongs to others in the name of dominion. Dominion should not be construed as dominating other persons, enslaving, colonizing or taking their territories. It does not mean going after other races, gender and demographics and making them less human or treating them with disdain or as second-class citizens. God created all men and made them equal. However, He gives us dominion over anyone who seeks to destroy us. He gives us dominion over our enemies. Whatever the situation is, even if men are the masterminds, which seeks to make us fall, is under our control. Victory is ours, if we know this and believe it.
Again, God did not give the earth to humankind and then walk away. He expects us to be responsible stewards over the glory of His creation, in which He remains present and active. When you subdue any turbulent situation by wisdom and godly energy, you show that you have tapped into that authority that God has given you. He remains around you to make the outcome favorable to you. God has played His part and leaves the decision or choice to you to make. If you exercise dominion over those issues, He is there to perfect it for you.
What it takes to Access Dominion
Knowledge is central to accessing dominion. No one is born with the understanding of anything. We all learn as we grow. Dominion as a right and power is gained by knowledge. Knowledge exposes you to information, the truth and understanding of your power.
What you know, you cannot doubt. “You will find true success when you find me, for I have insight into wise plans that are designed just for you. I hold in my hands living- understanding, courage, and strength” (Proverbs 8:14-16). Until you know that dominion is the purpose for your life, you would continue to accept any situation as stronger than your will.
Benefits of Understanding Your Dominion in Christ
In Ephesians 2:4-7: “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions- it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”
Our dominion places us side-by-side with Christ and thus, whatever does not have control over Christ cannot have dominion over us. We are seated far above principalities and power. The devil is beneath us. Defeat, sickness, retrogression are beneath you.
When you know that you have dominion, you will be able to boldly exercise your right. Moreover, you will be able to prevent or end the reign of failure. Furthermore, you will confidently walk the path of success and godliness at all times. In addition, you will be able to live a healthy life, as you will have charge over diseases.
Friends, if others are failing any exams, from this day, you will never fail anymore. You have dominion in Christ. Go and exercise it. Victory is certain. Congratulations!!!
