The Governorship Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo State, Hon. Kunle Olatunji KTJ, has been listed among the candidates featured on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal for the forthcoming 2027 governorship election.
Other candidates whose names appeared on the portal include Senator Oba Sarafadeen Alli of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bimbo Adekanmbi of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adegboyega Adegoke of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gbolagade Salami of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Oriyomi Hamzat of the Accord Party, Titilola Sodo of the Action Alliance (AA), and Saheed Oladele of the African Action Congress (AAC), among others.
With the emergence of candidates across the political parties, the stage is gradually being set for an intense contest for the governorship seat, which political observers believe will be a defining moment in the political and developmental trajectory of Oyo State.
In his reaction, Olatunji congratulated the other 15 contestants on their emergence as candidates of their respective political parties, wishing them well as they prepare for the electoral contest.
He, however, urged the people of Oyo State to approach the forthcoming election with discernment, caution, and a clear understanding of the enormous responsibility involved in electing the next governor of the state.
According to him, the electorate must look beyond political party affiliations, political structures, financial influence, and campaign rhetoric to critically assess the character, competence, capacity, and sincerity of purpose of the individuals seeking their mandate.
Olatunji expressed confidence in the intelligence and discerning capacity of the Oyo electorate, noting that the people possess the ability to distinguish between genuine leadership propositions and mere political promises.
He maintained that the prevailing circumstances demand a leadership selection process driven by integrity, empathy, experience, competence, and a demonstrable commitment to sustainable development rather than political sentiment or personal interests.
Reflecting on the governance experiences of previous administrations and the political parties commonly regarded as the major contenders, Olatunji observed that the outcomes of successive leadership arrangements leave considerable room for improvement, particularly in addressing the developmental aspirations and socioeconomic challenges of the people.
He consequently assured the people of Oyo State that his emergence as governor would usher in a new era of purposeful leadership, comprehensive development, and shared prosperity.
By the grace of Almighty God and with the mandate of the people of Oyo State, I am confident that our administration will initiate a fundamental turnaround in the state’s development trajectory and deliver the transformative governance that our people have long desired and anticipated,” he said.
The ADP candidate described his governorship ambition as a solemn commitment to public service and a covenant with the people of Oyo State, founded on the principles of empathy, integrity, accountability, and purposeful leadership.
He explained that his vision is to build a government that recognises the collective aspirations of the people and actively engages professionals, entrepreneurs, young people, artisans, community leaders, and other critical stakeholders in driving inclusive development and sustainable economic growth.
Olatunji further disclosed that his campaign would intensify in the coming days through a carefully coordinated and strategically driven engagement with the electorate across the state.
He expressed confidence that the emerging campaign activities of the ADP and its candidates contesting for various elective positions across the country would challenge conventional political assumptions and demonstrate that credible leadership, effective governance, and electoral victory are achievable beyond the traditional dominance of established political parties.
While expressing appreciation to his supporters, family members, friends, associates, political stakeholders, media practitioners, the leadership and members of the Action Democratic Party, and the people of Oyo State for their various supports, trust, and confidence that contributed to the successes recorded hitherto on his ambition, Olatunji reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals underpinning the “Project Fix Oyo, Fix Nigeria” initiative, which he described as the philosophical foundation of the party’s aspiration to reposition governance for the benefit of the people.
He acknowledged that the journey ahead would be demanding, challenging, and arduous but maintained that victory remains achievable through strategic planning, effective mobilisation, collective commitment, and the grace of Almighty God.
“Victory is certain in our conviction, even though the journey may be difficult, tough, and demanding. With determination, commitment, strategic engagement, and the support of the people, our aspiration is achievable. We are prepared for the task ahead,” Olatunji declared.
