The Technical Adviser of Nigeria Professional football League side, Kano Pillars, Kadiri Ikhana has tendered his resignation letter to the management of the team after being in charge of 19 games for the club.
The former Shooting Stars handler, who is in his second spell with the team, threw in the towel on Sunday due to “health issues”.
Former African coach of the year, whose last assignment with Kano Pillars was a 0-1 home loss to Akwa United was attacked after the match and he’s currently receiving medical treatment in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Announcing his resignation on Sunday, Ikhana said he is no longer strong enough to stand the rigours of the job.
He cited the injury sustained during the attack as motivation for his decision.
He noted that the aftermath of comprehensive medical examinations led him to the realisation that the time to quit the game had arrived.
Ikhana said it was unfortunate that he was not able to fulfill his wish to quit after the close of the season.
He wished the club the best as the season progresses.
Meanwhile, Kano Pillars Football Club board has accepted his resignation.
The board in a release signed by its media officer, Malikawa Idris Rilwanu said though they got the information through press interview granted the media late Sunday night, but thanked the former Technical Adviser Kadiri Ikhana MON for his contributions to the club.
Malikawa said Kadiri was not in Enugu for the match against Rangers FC but after the match he communicated with some journalists and club officials from his base in Abeokuta Ogun state to announced his resignation as technical adviser of sai masu gida from Sunday, 23/4/2017.
“The management of Kano Pillars FC accepted his resignation in good fate and wish him full recovery from the sickness which he said was the reason he quit his job,” Malikawa said.
He assured that the relationship between the club and Ikhana will be sustained.
On the issue of the possible replacement, Malikawa said that will be decided within the week.
He said the players have been given a five day mid season break.
He urged the fans of the club to be patience with the board as it was doing everything humanly possible to see that the club status is revived in the second stanza.
