Ekiti State House of Assembly has read, for the first time, a bill seeking to revise the 2017 Appropriation Law of the state, just as it confirmed the appointment of the Executive Secretary of the House of Assembly Commission and the Deputy Clerk of the House.
These were the result of the House plenary on Tuesday at the Assembly chamber, Ado-Ekiti. Leader of the House Business, Honourable Tunji Akinyele, who introduced the activities of the House, noted that the review was necessary in view of the current realities.
A statement by Stephen Gbadamosi, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Speaker, Right Honourable (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole, quoted him as saying the House would consider the bill for second reading at its next sitting.
At the plenary, which also witnessed submission of the annual report of the House Committee on Works and Transportation, the Assembly confirmed the appointment of Mr Femi Ogundipe as the executive secretary of the House Commission, as well as that of Mr Gbenga Ipinlaye as its Deputy Clerk.
While reading the report of the House Committee on Works and Transportation, Chairman of the committee, Chief Afolabi Akanni, noted that the committee carried out oversight functions across the three senatorial districts of the state, adding that most of the works supervised had reached notable levels of completion.
Akanni said, among other things, that; “under the Central Senatorial zone, the committee paid working visit to the Fajuyi – Okesa – Ojumose overhead bridge. The landmark project is about 1.2 kilometre long and is being handled by Kopek Construction Company Limited. The job has every sign of professional touch.”
The lawmaker also spoke extensively on other projects being embarked upon by the Ayo Fayose-led administration, among which are the Ikere-Ekiti road dualisation project, Ise-Ekiti road project, Emure drainage project, the modern Oja-Oba market, new judiciary headquarters, new governor’s office, Iropora – Araromi – Epe – Ijero road project, Ijero drainage project, Ayetoro – Ewu road project, Ilupeju – Ire road project, Orin – Ido road and Ikun bridge, among many others.
Commenting on the report, the Speaker, Pastor Oluwawole, commended the committee for a job well done, while also giving kudos to Governor Ayodele Fayose for the litany of laudable projects he is embarking upon.
He also appreciated the governor for ensuring that more than 90 per cent of contractors handling various projects under the administration are local, maintaining that such a development had prevented capital flight.
