Herdsmen Attacks: Ogun House Seeks Improved Security For Residents

Apparently concerned by the alleged clashes between herdsmen and farmers which always result in deaths of innocent citizens in some parts of the State, the Ogun State House of Assembly has tasked the heads of the various security agencies in the State to be more proactive in protecting lives and properties of residents in all parts of the State.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi gave the charge, while responding to the submissions of the members representing Yewa North II State Constituency, Hon. Rasaq Oduntan and His Ijebu North I State constituency counterpart, Bowale Solaja under Personal Explanation who complained of incessant invasion of farmland and villages by herdsmen in their constituencies.

Adekunbi, who stated that the herdsmen/ farmers clashes had become a national issue which required immediate solution, acknowledged that the State Government had been responsible and responsive in its response to such cases in the past, promising that all measures would be put in place to protect the lives and property of the  people of the State.

Earlier in their presentations, the lawmakers described the herdsmen attacks as barbaric, saying 21 lives had been lost, while others sustain variousbinjuries in the crises which often occured on annual basis.

In another development, members of the public have been urged to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) being put in place by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register preparatory to the forthcoming general elections in next year.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon Suraju Ishola Adekunbi made the call while responding to submissions of members representing Ijebu North East, Hon Jimi Otukoya and his Ifo II counterpart, Ganiyu Oyedeji who emphasised the need for the electoral body to put in place more measures towards ensuring timely accessibility of  Permanent Voter Card (PVC).

Adekunbi, who lauded the commencement of the voters registration by INEC, charged the Commission to increase on its enlightenment and sensitisation programme to the populace on the importance of the exercise to mobilise more citizens to participate.
