Prince Dapo Abiodun’s government in Ogun State has reaffirmed its commitment towards women empowerment in a bid to enhance the economic and social status of the womenfolk, as it partners with GIZ, a German organization in Nigeria.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Ranti Oladeinde gave this hint during a stakeholders’ meeting, held with the team from GIZ in her office, at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Dr. Oladeinde said, though the Ministry has been organising vocational training for women on regular bases through one of its departments, it would not hesitate to partner with GIZ in order to enlarge the scope of operation on women empowerment.
Earlier, the leader of GIZ team, Mr. Simeon Frank, said the meeting was designed to build the capacity of stakeholders towards ensuring that the organization was making positive impact on employment generation among the women folk, noting that the three main areas of the organization’s focus included; policy level, vocational training for young Nigerians and support on internship programmes.
The meeting also had in attendance the Consultant to GIZ on SKYE programme, Mr. Michael Okhawere, the Director of Admin and Supply in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Osibodu, among others.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government has reemphasized its readiness to ensure that the rights of children were not infringed upon in the State, saying they were the future of the nation, who would develop into patriotic and responsible citizens.
The Director for Child Development Services, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr. Kehinde Egbeolowo made this known while speaking at a television programme, to mark the International Child’s Right Day in the State, saying the rights of the children according to the United Nations General Assembly and African Chapter on Child Convention has been subsumed into four basic Rights.
He stated these Rights to include Survival Rights, Development Rights, Protection Rights and Constitutional Rights, which should be the primary role of parents and the government.
Egbeolowo said government would play its part to provide special care for the children, calling on teachers, parents and guardians to ensure that their rights are well taken care of.
