The Biodun Oyebanji-led government in Ekiti State has reiterated its commitment to the welfare of victims of natural disasters and vulnerable people in order to make life more meaningful to them.

The Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye, stated this at Abiodun Adetiloye hall, Ado Ekiti while distributing relief materials provided by the federal government to assist the victims of flood in the state.

Chief Afuye who listed some of the relief materials given to the beneficiaries to include food stuff, mats, palm oils, vegetable oils among others, expressed the readiness of Ekiti state government to always collaborate with government agencies, corporate organisations and other donors that are willing to render assistance to vulnerable people to be self-sufficient and prevent them from becoming a burden to the society.

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor who commended the federal government gesture, called on corporate organizations and well-meaning individuals to emulate such in order to create a virile society.

Chief Afuye however called for more relief materials from the federal government in order to capture those who were yet to benefit from the government support programmes and urged others who were not yet captured to exercise patience as the state government would not hesitate to do the needful as soon as more relief materials were acquired.

Ekiti Deputy Governor said: “These relief materials were purposely donated and distributed to improve the livelihoods of Internally Displaced Persons in the state, also to help beneficiaries become self-sufficient, more so the State Government is always interested in assisting vulnerable people in reclaiming their normal lives rather than being a burden in the state”.

The Ekiti State number two citizen urged residents and beneficiaries to desist from the habits of dumping refuse in drain, saying such could lead to blockage of the waterways, and wreak havoc

She also encouraged the people to prevent factors that could ignite fire outbreak and urged them to make good use of the items distributed to them.

In a remark, the NEMA Director General, Ahmad Habib represented by Mr Olarewaju Kidiri revealed that the provision of the relief materials was aimed at reaching 3,000 victims but only one thousand victims were captured in the first phase and thereby expressed appreciation to God as there were no lives lost in the process of the disasters.

Earlier, the SEMA General Manager, Mr Jide Borode, assured the victims that government would ensure even distribution of the materials across the state as Iworoko and Ikere citizens were to benefit in the first phase, while other towns in the state would subsequently be included in the other batches.

While appreciating the Ekiti and federal governments, some of the beneficiaries, Mr. Adesoye Bright, Mr Adebayo Omotayo, Mrs. Odo Monica prayed for the success and landmark achievements of Governor Biodun Oyebanji led administration.
