The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Oyo State Council, has congratulated Otunba Salimon Akanni Oladiti (SAO) on his emergence as the new National President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG.
In a congratulatory message signed by the NLC Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins, on Monday, he described Oladiti’s election as well-deserved and a testament to his years of dedication, competence, and service to the oil and gas workers’ union.
“On behalf of the entire workforce in Oyo State, I felicitate Otunba Salimon Oladiti on his emergence as NUPENG President. His track record as a committed unionist and advocate for workers’ welfare gives us confidence that NUPENG is in safe hands,” Martins stated.
The Oyo NLC boss noted that NUPENG remains a critical affiliate of the NLC and a key player in Nigeria’s economic stability. He expressed optimism that Oladiti’s leadership would further strengthen the union’s role in defending workers’ rights and promoting industrial harmony in the petroleum sector.
“At a time when Nigerian workers face harsh economic realities, we need strong, principled, and visionary leaders across all industrial unions. Otunba Oladiti has shown those qualities over the years,” he added.
Comrade Martins also pledged the support of the Oyo State NLC to the new NUPENG leadership, calling for closer collaboration between state councils and industrial unions to advance the welfare of workers nationwide.
The NLC urged the new President to prioritize unity within NUPENG, engage constructively with government and employers, and continue to protect the interests of members in downstream and upstream operations.
