World Cancer Day: Medical Experts Advises On Early Medical Attention For The Prevention Of Cancer

Medical experts have urged the public to seek early medical attention in the fight against cancer disease.

The submission was made as part of the activities marking the celebration of the 2022 World Cancer Day with the theme “Closing the gap, close the Care”.

Speaking, Dr. Omonisi Abidemi stated that this year’s theme is centered on the need for the government at all levels to bridge the gap currently experienced in the health sector and to give adequate attention to cancer patients in order to enable them to have good access to health care facilities.

Revealing the cause of cancer, the medical doctor said “It all depends on the type of cancer. This is because there are many historic factors in our environment that makes one to be prone to cancer.

“Also, we have Human Papiloma Virus, it is sexually transmitted and it is known to cause cervical cancer while the late treatment of Hepatitis B and C and the use of chemicals and bleaching cream can lead to skin cancer”.

Dr. Omonisi Abidemi further revealed that the annual celebration of the world cancer day affords all health care professionals, patients, Non Governmental Organizations, Journalists and interested members of the public to address issues relating to the treatment of cancer.

He said, “Cancer in the world today is the latest threat to the existence of humanity and this year’s theme is a call to challenge the assumptions and address the inequalities in the treatment of cancer all over the world”.

Also at the event, Mrs. Martins Adetoye, an Ekiti based nurse further urged the public to join the campaign against cancer and for them to be properly educated on the signs and treatment against the disease.

She further stated that cancer disease is preventable and curable when detected early while revealing plans to make her diagnostic center, Funmi Adunni Olayinka Diagnosis and Wellness Centre accessible for the treatment of cancer.

Revealing facts about cancer patients for the year 2021, she said, “There are 179 cases of breast cancer patients followed by cervical cancer patients with 24 while prostate cancer patients are 35 and liver patients are eight among others with 37 of the patients bleeding to death due to lateness in accessing health facilities”.
